Sotogrande
Sotogrande is the ultimate luxury resort estate in southern Spain. Comprising three golf courses and numerous facilities for horse riding, polo, tennis, fronton, paddle tennis and sailing, its dedication to sport and leisurely activities is apparent. From its luxury properties, residents can enjoy views of the Straits of Gibraltar and the looming presence of the Atlas Mountains on the horizon. As one of the first luxury residential areas built on the Costa del Sol, Sotogrande certainly retains an air of understated luxury with its fine marina, spacious villas, five star golf course and Royal Polo. An improved infrastructure means that airports are no more than an hour’s drive away and other world class golf courses, marinas and shopping areas are also close at hand. Spectators are welcome to watch the regular polo matches that take place throughout the year, mostly at weekends.

Sotogrande is located south of Marbella, approximately an hour’s drive from Malaga airport. The marina was built in 1987 and is equipped with the standard modern facilities such as electricity, telephone, fresh water and television. It currently has 548 berths but there are plans to extend this number to 1052. Sotogrande is custom built to cater for some of the world’s most luxurious seafarers. Consequently, the marina here is possibly the best on the Costa del Sol. Far removed from the mountain pueblos of Andalucia and the bustle of other coastal towns, Sotogrande is the resort to relax in and enjoy. The glorious weather and beautiful surroundings make it a pleasure.

Sotogrande offers a variety of outdoor sports including horse riding, tennis, paddle tennis, fronton and sailing. There are also three golf courses in Sotogrande; Almenara Golf, Sotogrande Golf and the world-renowned Valderamma Golf Course, where the Ryder Cup was hosted in 1997.

Sotogrande is also small town and is relatively quiet throughout the year. It is a popular destination for Spanish holiday-makers and is therefore busier in July and August. Despite its small size, there is a good selection of quality restaurants in Sotogrande, serving international and native dishes.

Sotogrande is regarded as a prime real estate town and as a result some of the Costa's most exclusive developments are located in this area. The beaches in Sotogrande are secluded and offer a peace and quiet that is often difficult to find on the Costa del Sol. At the mouth of the River Guadiaro lies an area of protected marshland where nature lovers can enjoy a stroll along the wooden walkways and watch for the many species of birds at Ke Bar – a lovely spot for sunny lunches and watching the world sail by.
