Key Points
- Click for Guideline Property Values
- Pretty
coastline with some excellent beaches (e.g at La Cala) together with
the higher areas lying slightly more inland.
- Some
urbanisations are long-established (Riviera and El Chaparral), other
areas are seeing concentrated high-quality development. There are
still attractive parts, as yet untouched by development.
- The
Costa del Sol racecourse (hipodromo) is located here - modern and
popular. A number of developments are taking place around the racecourse,
in particular the large Cerrado de Aguila urbanisation and new golf
course.
- Golf
also at Miraflores and La Noria.
- La
Cala de Mijas is the best small seaside village community along the
entire coast. Not 'quaint' but very attractive, clean and modern -
it is highly sought-after. A good mix of 'proper' Spanish life and
incomers. La Cala is seeing some very large developments on the hillsides
just inland from the village itself.
- Approval has been givien for a new marina and fishing harbour close by La Cala - this bound to be an additional focus and attraction.
- For information about the coastal railway, click here.
- The
area is next to the extensive commercial resources of Fuengirola and
an easy distance from Malaga airport (20mins) along the A7 (N340)
main road (which is very busy at times).
Nearly 40% of Mijas Costa's population are expats, half of those Brits, so there's a strong community. Great beaches for fishing and snorkelling and beautiful surrounding countryside make the area perfect for families. Several residential areas with everything from apartments and townhouses to luxury villas means there's something for every taste and budget.
- Health centres and chemists plus several private clinics serving English speakers
- Various supermarkets and one small shopping centre
- Sports centre and top-class tennis club
- Bars and restaurants offering a variety of cuisines
- The famous Mijas Racecourse offering weekly horse races, together with a riding school and excellent athletics facilities
- Miraflores Golf, one of the oldest and most prestigious courses in the area
